April Wellness Advocate Share

April 2017 Advocates Share
This month's Advocates Share features stand out Wellness Advocates from March 2017.

Ever have those months where everything seems to fall apart? Yep, me too.
Did you know that those are the months that sift the true leaders from the rest? Did you know that the way you handle your down months will set your pace for the up months?

When we have a tough month it is really easy to throw in the towel, emotionally, mentally, physically... or all of the above. It's easy to "write off" a month as no good, when a cancellation of a class, a bum booth, or a leader dropping out rocks us back on our heels. But, every single Diamond and up in this company has had similar months I guarantee you. And, it was in those times that the true leadership of those individuals really shone.

You see, if all the months were easy, then anyone and everyone would succeed in this business. The silver lining of the tough month cloud is that by pushing through it, working harder because of it, you actually get a leg up on any competition that happens to be coasting. Those who coast are easily thrown back by a wave of difficulty, only those who are actively swimming in this business can scoot over the wave and keep going.

So, next time a tough month gets you down, consider looking at it as a blessing and not a curse. Here, in this, is your opportunity to swim past the coasting competition and set yourself up for leadership opportunities.

Just keep swimming,
Maggie Dubois

Amy Ritchey is a Premier wellness advocate from Falling Waters, WV. Amy enrolled 4 people in March. She's been enrolled with doTERRA since January 2014. Here Amy shares why she started sharing doTERRA.

My Why

I was at a cross between what I should talk about. It was a toss-up between the rocks, pebbles, sand all fitting in a jar to represent your life (good story, should look it up if  you don’t know about it, or if you’re interested in it, ask me and I can send you a link, it’s a good thing to keep in mind and not to stress about the little things in your life); talking about diminishing the reaction of people when they hear the prices of the oils, and how doTERRA can be compared to the awesome steak  anyone would prefer over McDonalds or eating a healthy diet in comparison to a junk food diet, of course you would pay more for the good stuff; and finally I thought about the WHY.
Since I have touched a little on the two topics above and giving you something more to think about, I decided on the why, specifically my why.

As a mother of two, a host mom to a foreign exchange student, a college student, and a full time career woman my days are full, as I am sure most of yours are! I don’t have time to regularly enjoy a spa, and I definitely don’t have the time for hospital visits (not saying they are not needed at times), nor do I like putting created medication in mine or my families bodies. The oils for me are all that and more.  Just as much as I enjoy the one stop shopping from Amazon, doTERRA has become my one stop shopping for health, relaxation, skin, teeth, and detergent. In addition to helping myself, my family, and friends,  I enjoy interacting with others and helping them realize there is another route to take. Last but not least, I have not forgotten my doTERRA family that I have gained from being in this business.  I have an endless amount of resources and experiences that are just a phone call, text or FB message away. Each and every one of you carries so much value and weight and all are blessed with individual attributes.

I want to share just one of the many stories that did it for me. Three years ago, I was skeptical, my family and friends referred to me as the crazy snake oil lady. I’m sure most of you can relate.  My fiancé has shrapnel in his hand that affects his mobility, at times his hand will uncontrollably clench into almost a fist, at the same time it is very painful. As I watched him struggle, it occurred to me I had this great new thing to try. So I got the Deep Blue lotion out and put it on his hands, it took about a minute for his hand had to release and the pain subsided, at that point he was sold. Each of you has individual stories, all of which make up our why. Watching other’s lives change because you helped them is a priceless gift. I tell you this because sometimes we wonder if what we do matters? Did I have to be in a movie, on the radio, or world renowned to have my action matter? Nope, I simply am changing the world by one drop at a time!
Have the Best Day!

Britta Wright is a Director level wellness advocate from Hagerstown, MD. She's been enrolled with doTERRA since January 2017 . Britta enrolled 4 people in March. Here Britta shares about being authentic and the power of listening:

Hi everyone! I am so glad to be a part of this supportive, loving team. Thanks for including me into the dōTERRA family! I got started with dōTERRA at my husband's family Christmas party. My wonderful aunt (Nichole Johnson) started talking to my parents about dōTERRA - I started listening - and then I got hooked! I'm truly amazed at their products and the impact they have made on my life. I decided to become a Wellness Advocate because I genuinely love essential oils and sharing them with other people. Before dōTERRA, I never pictured myself getting involved in selling anything or building a business - mainly because this is something I would consider to be out of my "comfort zone." Little did I know, the dōTERRA family would introduce me to a great group of women who have supported and encouraged me both personally and professionally.

I believe the most profound thing I have learned while on this Wellness Advocate journey is to be myself. I think it's easy for most of us to look around and compare ourselves with others - whether it's their success, rank, their personalities, their social media accounts, or whatever it may be that's causing someone to fall into the "comparison trap," as I like to call it. I've learned that being myself works best - it allows me to be genuine and authentic in my approach when reaching out and talking to others about essential oils. I remind myself everyday of this quote: "Wanting to be someone else is a waste of the person you are."

I also believe it's incredibly important to listen. Listening is an art and it's something I do each and everyday as a School Counselor. I've learned that it's crucial to listen to other people and their needs. Those needs could be physical, emotional, spiritual, or even financial. I believe it's best to connect with people first, figure out what they need help with, and then educate them on the ways in which oils could improve their life. People know if you're really listening or not. Take the time to listen to understand. I've had some of the best moments and success when just sitting and conversing with someone about dōTERRA and not having any particular agenda in mind.

Not only is it important to listen to people we may be helping, but I also believe it's important to listen to the people who are helping me. I am thankful for the ladies who have reached out to me, prayed for me, and have encouraged me. I try to soak up every ounce of knowledge they have and leave every conversation with a new takeaway or challenge. When things feel slow or I find myself asking "can I really do this?" I dive in and educate myself. The more I learn about the product and how to build my business, the more confident I feel in knowing that I can be successful.

I've also learned I've got to get out of my comfort zone! Yes, it's comfy, but I don't believe that's where God intended me to be. Speaking in front of groups (classes!) is not my favorite thing, so I know it's something I have to continually work on so I can feel more confident in this area. Hosting classes is SO much fun and a really great way to build your business. I love connecting with people and seeing their reactions and hearing their questions.

Also, be teachable! Always, always be open for feedback and suggestions from those around you who are helping you along this journey. I truly believe dōTERRA and this opportunity came at a time in my life where I needed pushed and encouraged. I am so grateful I said, "Yes, sign me up!" I'm excited to dive in further and continue to be a sponge and soak up all that I can.

And lastly, don't forget to have fun along the way. :)

Jessica Reno is a Elite level wellness advocate from Harpers Ferry, WV. She ranked Elite for the first time in March. She's been enrolled with doTERRA since May 2014. Here she shares her top reason for her DoTerra Success:

"The most important thing that has helped with my business is the support from my husband. He is such a believer that essential oils really do help that he has come to classes with me and helped explain the oils to other men who may be skeptical. Without him, I wouldn't have been as successful as I have been recently...as WE have been recently. 😊"
